Officer involved in Locke arrest under internal investigation
The Gainesville Police officer who was responsible for the DUI arrest of Gator baseball player Stephen Locke - a charge that was later dropped for lack of evidence - is under internal investigation because of statements he made on videotape during the traffice stop last January.
State Attorney Bill Cervone dropped the charges against Locke on March 7 because he said at the time that a review of the police in-car video did not substantiate the allegations, particularly charges that Locke was observed weaving across the yellow line while driving.
Locke, a former Tampa King standout, was dismissed from the Gators' team two days after the arrest, but has since been reinstated. Locke has started three games since his return and pitched 9.1 innings. He currently has a 2.89 ERA and is also batting .263.
