Painter won't attend UF afterall
Deshawn Painter, one of the nation's top big men and a member of Florida's 2009 recruiting class, won't be playing for the Gators next season.
Painter has asked to be released from his scholarship, and UF coach Billy Donovan will honor Painter's decision to go elsewhere.
The 6-foot-9 center is rated the tenth-best in the nation by Rivals.com.
Painter, who attended Hargrave Military Academy, has reopened his recruitment.
With the loss of Painter, and forward Allan Chaney, the Gators now have 12 scholarship players. That number could be reduced to 11: guard Nick Calathes is testing the NBA Draft waters, but has not hired an agent, which leaves the possibility of his return open.
