Patric Young continues to deal with ankle injury
Florida C Patric Young's ankle injury is becoming a concern for the Gators. Young is dealing with tendonitis-like symptoms in his ankle.
Coach Billy Donovan said today that the injury has been hampering Young for at least two weeks, but the severity is unknown. Young was replaced in the starting lineup this past Saturday at South Carolina because of the injury.
"I really don’t know,'' Donovan said. "I don’t want to say that it’s gotten progressively worse, that’s not necessarily true. But I just think in practice he’s been laboring. There were some things we were doing in Columbia (S.C.) Saturday in getting prepared during our shootaround and he wasn’t moving like he needed to move. I just told him that we needed to basically go with a different starting lineup just to see how he felt. He never really got into the flow of the game in Colubmia because he picked up two fouls early, and when he did get in there, he probably only played three minutes in the first half. Then he played a little bit more in the second half, maybe 10 (minutes).''
Donovan said the Gators' medical staff will continue to work with Young to try and find a solution to the problem.
"I don’t think it’s anything severe or significant or anything that cannot be cleared up,'' he said. "I think that our medical people here are probably going to go to the next step and maybe X-ray him or MRI, something along those lines, more for precautionary reasons.''
Donovan said his biggest concern is Young's ability to remain in top condition when he's unable to practice like he needs to. Young is averaging 11.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
