Redshirt freshman arrested on battery charges

Gary brown Gators redshirt freshman DT Gary Brown has been suspended from all team activities following his arrest early Sunday morning on two misdemeanor counts of battery stemming from an incident at an off-campus party.

Brown, who did not see action for the Gators in 2009, is accused of striking a woman in the face with his open hand as she attempted to get people to leave a party at a Gainesville apartment complex. When another woman tried to intervene, she was allegedly scratched by Brown as he tried to slap her arms away, police reports state.

Brown, 19, was supposed to be a promising star for the Gators - he was the No. 2 defensive tackle in the nation coming out of high school last year.

Both alleged victims have filed sworn complaints against Brown.

According to Alachua County court records, Brown was released on his own recognizance Monday morning. He has been ordered not to have contact with the alleged victims.
