Reed, Christian making early strong impression at TE position

6

August

Former quarterback Jordan Reed spent this past spring learning the position of tight end after making the decision to switch positions at the end of his first season.

But it's the offseason work Reed has put in that has tight ends coach Brian White expecting big things from the 6-foot-3, 240-pound redshirt freshman with the very steady hands.

"Jordan has had tremendous recall from spring ball and it's very evident that he worked his ass off this summer,'' White said following Friday's practice. "He is a tremendously improved football player and he's going to be really fun to watch this year. I can't wait to watch him in the Swamp, he's going to do some special things.''

With the loss of former TE Aaron Hernandez, who left for the NFL following his junior season, the Gators are in need of reliable players at the position. Freshman Gerald Christian is also making his case for playing time this season.

"Gerald Christian is another drastically improved football player,'' White said. "What's evident in the first two days is Jordan Reed and Gerald Christian really improved themselves this summer. They did a great job of just becoming better football players. They did a great job with coach Marotti and his staff and it has paid tremendous dividends. They are very confident. They are much-improved.''
