Running game could be key in Florida-Tennessee game
If history is any indication, expect the running game to play an important role in Saturday night's game between Florida and Tennessee.
The team with the most rushing yards in this series has won the last seven games.
Last season, the Vols had -9 rushing yards in a 33-23 loss to the Gators, but Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said he expects the Vols to be much better in that area.
"Certainly they're going to run it,'' Quinn said. "They really have two different styles, when they are two-back running team where they're more inside the tackles and they're a good power running team. They have a very big offensive line. And then when they want to get more spread out and they have three different backs they use where there will be more screens and draws. Little bit different styles of runs depending on who's in the game, but a physical offensive line who's got some big guys there. They want to run the ball downhill, and certainly that's what they've put on tape over the last couple years.''
UT coach Derek Dooley said he wants to establish a balanced offense against the Gators, but understands the importance of being able to run it.
"Balance is important but the most important thing is trying to generate some points,'' Dooley said. "It's hard to win a game, especially in this league, when you're minus 9 ruhisng the ball, that's for sure.''
Tennessee is averaging 187.5 rushing yards per game, while the Gators have 181.0.
