JenniferGeorge Several Gators have been honored this week by the SEC for their competitive performances.

Gator freshman Jennifer George was named to the SEC women's basketball All-Freshman team.

George was the SEC’s top freshman shot blocker in conference games
(16 total, 1.0 per game) and ranked No. 2 among SEC freshman rebounders
in SEC play (6.0 rpg). She also shot 50.0% from the field and contributed 6.4 points per game.

She was UF’s leader in SEC games for offensive rebounds and ranked second for steals and blocks.  In UF’s last five games of the regular season, George was the Gators’ leading rebounder, with 7.0 per game, and second-leading scorer, with 9.0 points.

TENNIS:

Lauren Embree was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Playing the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles positions, Embree led the Gators to two sweeps over top-15 ranked teams, including No. 6 Duke, the defending NCAA Champion.

She posted a combined 4-0 singles and doubles record, collecting two more singles wins against ranked opponents, as she improved to 17-5 overall and 14-5 against ranked foes, including a win against Duke’s No.
1 player, 6-3, 6-3, that gave Florida a 3-0 lead in the team scoring.

Bob Van Overbeek was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the third straight week a Gator has garnered that recognition.  Van Overbeek earned his first career victory over a ranked opponent when he defeated then-No. 57 Abe Souza of Illinois at the No. 4 singles position as part of the Gators’ 5-2 win over then-No. 13 Fighting
Illini.

GOLF

Isabelle Lendl was named the SEC Golfer of the Week after tying her sister Marika for first in the Central District Invitational, Feb. 22-23, at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla. Isabelle was named the official tournament medalist in a scorecard playoff  - shooting a four-under-par 212 for the tournament. She set career marks in low round (67), 36 holes (141), tournament score (212) and finish (T1) at the Central District, leading the Gators to their first tournament win of the year.

GYMNASTICS

Ashanée Dickerson earned her fourth freshman Gymnast of the Week honor, having now been honored five of the eight weeks of the 2010 season - four times as SEC Freshman of the Week and once as SEC
Gymnast of the Week.

Dickerson picked up her fifth all-around win of the season last Friday at No. 16 Auburn with her total of 39.35. She is the second Gator gymnast since 1990 to collect five or more all-around wins as a freshman
(Corey Hartung earned six in 2006). Dickerson also won the floor exercise title at 9.875 - her fourth floor title of the season.

Dickerson’s 14 event wins leads the Gators this year and is the most since Hartung collected 10 event titles through the first eight meets of her premiere season.
