Six more Florida players are ill
The Gator football team continues to battle illness as six more players were held out of Tuesday's practice.
Last week, TE Aaron Hernandez, DE Jermaine Cunningham and RB Jeff Demps were all suffering from the flu or flu-like symptoms. On Monday, WR coach Billy Gonzales became ill.
Tuesday, UF coach Urban Meyer said Middleton grad A.J. Jones was among six players held out because of the illness. The others are: RB Mike Gillislee, OL Shawn Schmeider, DB Josh Evans, WR Justin Williams and DE Earl Okine.
"We're not 100 percent,'' Meyer said. "We had six others today come down with it, so we're battling a little bit right now.''
Meyer said the training and medical staff is doing everything possible keep others from becoming sick. Gonzales coached in a mask and gloves on Tuesday.
Florida will travel to play at Kentucky on Saturday, at 6 p.m.
"We're doing what we've got to do,'' he said. "We can control what we can control. Guys are wiping down everything. We're doing whatever we can do.''
