South Carolina dealing with illness, injuries prior to Florida game
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said today the Gamecocks have been battling the flu as they prepare for Saturday's game against Florida.
"We've had a little bit of a flu bug going around,'' he said. "Some guys just been sick the last two or three days. But hopefully they'll be ready by the weekend.''
Spurrier said injuries are also playing a part in this week's prepartiona.
"A couple of defensive lineman have some little ankle sprains that hopefully can be ready,'' he said. "Kelcy Quarles has a bad shoulder. He's very doubtful if he'll be ready to play. Other than that, team is in decent shape, I guess.''
Quarles also faces disciplinary action for his role in punching an LSU lineman in the LSU-South Carolina game this past weekend.
"Yes we do have plans to discipline Kelcy for that,'' Spurrier said. "I guess you would call it a punch. I've seen a lot bigger punches, but he did sort of throw at him. I don't know if the LSU guy knew he threw a punch though. I mean it sort of glanced off his shoulder pads or helmet or something in there, but I saw it. We don't condone that.''
