Tampa pitchers take center stage in big-time rivarly this weekend
Two Tampa pitchers will be in the spotlight this weekend when the No. 5 Gators take on No. 10 Miami in a three-game series, beginning tonight at 7.
Sophomore Alex Panteliodis (2-0, 2.45) will open the series for the Gators against Hurricanes' junior Chris Hernandez (1-0, 1.64) in a matchup of left-handers. Panteliodis has picked up wins in both of his appearances this year out of the bullpen, covering 3.2 innings.
Redshirt sophomore Tommy Toledo (1-0, 2.08) will make his third start of the season to wrap up the series on Sunday. Over 8.2 innings of work, the right-hander has a team-leading 12 K in 8.2 innings and is limiting opponents to .212.
This is Florida’s first road series of the season. The Gators were 12-12 (.500) away from Gainesville last season.
