Tampa's A.J. Jones among 12 Florida football players who will graduate this weekend
Former Middleton standout A.J. Jones is among 33 student-athletes who will earn their degrees during commencement ceremonies this weekend at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the Florida campus.
Jones is the first member of his immediate family to graduate from college.
"This was part of the plan when I came to Florida,'' Jones said. "I wanted to play football, but I wanted to make sure I earned my degree. That was really important to my mom, more important even than the football part.''
Among the student athletes are 12 Gator football players - bringing to 97 the number of football players who have graduated under current
head football coach Urban Meyer during his tenure.
Current football seniors participating in graduation ceremonies include: punter Chas Henry (Dallas, Ga.), offensive lineman Maurice Hurt (Milledgeville, Ga.), offensive lineman Carl Johnson (Durham, N.C.), linebacker A.J. Jones (Tampa, Fla.), defensive lineman Lawrence Marsh (Augusta, Ga.), running back Emmanuel Moody (Coppell, Texas), wide receiver Carl Moore (Rancho Cordova, Calif.), offensive lineman and team co-captain Mike Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.) and wide receiver Justin Williams (Folkston, Ga.).
Former Florida football players graduating this weekend include Clearwater native and defensive end Clint Mitchell, safety Jarvis Herring (Live Oak, Fla.) and defensive tackle Troy Epps (Union, S.C.).
