Tampa's Preston Tucker Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Year

Florida first baseman Preston Tucker, a graduate of Plant High School, was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Year by a vote of the league's 12 coaches, the SEC office announced Tuesday morning. Tucker shares the honor with LSU pitcher Matty Ott.

Tucker was one of five Gators who earned all-conference honors, and was a unanimous selection to the SEC All-Freshman team.

In his first collegiate season, Tucker led teh SEC in league play with 40 RBI and was named SEC Freshman of the Wekk three times during the season. He is hitting .338 overall, and leads the Gator offense with a freshman record of 71 RBI, 11 home runs and 11 doubles. In conference play, he had a .350 batting average. a .545 slugging percentage, 23 runs and 14 extra base hits, helping the Gators to their first Eastern Division title since 2005.

Other Gators honored are: First team - second baseman Josh Adams and outfielder Avery Barnes; Second team - Pitcher Billy Bullock. Outfielder Matt den Dekker was named to the SEC All-Defensive team for the second consecuitve season. Adams is the first Gator to earn first-team honors in consecutive seasons since Brad Wilkerson in 1998.
