Ten former Gators invited to participate in NFL combine
Florida’s total of 10 athletes is tied for the third-highest total in the country, and is the most it has had under UF head coach Urban Meyer. The SEC has a nation’s-best 64 players invited to participate in the combine.
Of the Gator players, five were seniors this past season while five are early entrants following their junior season. Among the 10 are six first-team All-Americans in Joe Haden (2009), Aaron Hernandez (2009), Brandon James (2008), Maurkice Pouncey (2009), Brandon Spikes (2008 and 2009) and Tim Tebow (2007). In addition, Riley Cooper, Jermaine Cunningham, Carlos Dunlap, Haden, Hernandez, Pouncey, Spikes and Tebow each earned All-SEC recognition this past season. Junior S Major Wright is also among the Gators who will participate.
Players will undergo a series of drills, tests and interviews at the combine with more than 600 NFL personnel, including head coaches, general managers and scouts. The workout portion of the event will take place from Saturday, Feb. 27, through Tuesday, March 2.
