Unscrupulous sports agents like "pimps" Nick Saban says
With one of his players under investigation for alleged improper contact with an NFL agent, Alabama coach Nick Saban has had enough of what he calls unscrupulous agents.
"I don't think it's anything but greed that's creating it right now on behalf of the agents," Saban said during the opening session of the SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala. "The agents that do this - and I hate to say this, but how are they any better than a pimp?"
Saban said it's the agents who should be held more accountable for their actions and should lose their licenses if the violate the rules. He's even in favor of banning agents from college campuses if the improper activity can't be controlled.
As for the agents who break the rules, Saban said the NFL Players Association should suspend agents who jeopardize a student-athlete's eligibility.
"That's the only way we're going to stop this happening, because it's ridiculous and it's entrapment for young people at a very difficult time in their life," Saban said. "It's very difficult for the NCAA to control it, and it's very unfair to college football.''
