Urban Meyer says he will return in time to coach spring football
Florida coach Urban Meyer said he's feeling much healthier these days, has gained about 20 pounds in the past few weeks, and he plans to return from his leave of absence in time to coach spring football which begins on March 17.
"I'm feeling real good,'' Meyer said during halftime of Saturday night's basketball game between Florida and South Carolina. "I've been working out a lot and I'm over 200 pounds. I guess that's how they gauge it because I was not good for awhile. I'm feeling a lot better.''
Meyer said he'll undergo a series of tests in February, but declined to be specific about what those tests will be. He has already been through a battery of tests, including some on his heart and stress tests, and said "so far the tests are coming back pretty positive.''
Meyer said he's been actively involved in recruiting, but has not been allowed to travel, instead working the phones with recruits.
He will take a leave from his duties after the Feb. 3 National Signing Day, but the extent of that break and what it will entail remains to be seen.
"I've been instructed that I have to but I'm just not sure what I'm going to do,'' Meyer said. "I keep hearing about this time off, and people I'm closest to are going to demand I take some time off, but I've tried that already. I tried a day and a half and it didn't work.''
