Urban Meyer still pulling for the Gators from afar

He coached his final game as the Florida head coach in January 2011, and is now in his first season as head coach at Ohio State, but Urban Meyer said that hasn't stopped him from rooting for the Gators - from afar.

Meyer said this week he's been keeping up with the Gators and has nothing but best wishes for the staff and players.

"Absolutely,'' Meyer said when asked if he's been paying attention to what the Gators are doing.  "Always be a Gator.  I keep in touch with some of those players.  Great win (vs. LSU).  Great, tough win against a tough opponent, absolutely.''

Meyer declined to comment too much when asked his thoughts about previous comments from current coach Will Muschamp and others about his abrupt departure and leaving the cupboard bare at Florida when he left.

"I don't want to get into all that cupboard is bare, because that's one man's opinion, and it's not‑‑ we've got to move on,'' he said. " I'm very proud of those guys.  Love those guys.  Really proud to see Jeff Driskel play well.  He's a heck of a player.''

Driskel was initially recruited by Meyer before his resignation.
