Will Austin Rivers ultimately shun the Gators?

To be a Gator or not to be a Gator.

That is the question for Winter Park prep star Austin Rivers, son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers.

Rivers orally committed to the Gators in the summer of 2008, but seems to be increasingly wavering on that decision. The 6-foot-4 guard is part of the Class of 2011, and at one point this past season was averaging 30 points per game. He is currently ranked No. 8 by

But Rivers' commitment seems more and more like the proverbial "soft commitment" these days. After a recent visit from North Carolina coach Roy Williams, Rivers has apparently added North Carolina to his list of school choices, along with Florida and Duke, which also jumped into the picture recently.

Chalk this up as an excellent example of why the NCAA won't allow you to sign with a school when you're in 10th grade. Because at that age you have no idea what could happen over the next three years, and how many times you might want to change your mind.

Rivers gives a glimpse of what's currently going on inside his head in his diary for Dime Magazine.
