Will Muschamp expects Jeff Demps to return to football

Despite persistent talk that the Gators might be losing running back Jeff Demps, UF head coach Will Muschamp said today he fully expects Demps to return for his senior season.

Demps, an NCAA-champion sprinter, is currently in Italy competing with the U.S. National team. He missed all of spring practice and the Orange and Blue game competing with the Gator track team. Demps has concentrated solely on track since the Outback Bowl in January.

"Jeff and I have talked all summer, he’s working with the U.S. National Team,'' Muschamp said. "He’s in Italy right now and he and I are going to meet next week and I expect him to be a part of our football team. He had a great indoor season, he won the 60-meter national championship. He had a great outdoor season, didn’t run as well in the NCAA’s as he would have liked to, he was very frustrated about that. He and I talked about it all summer, he wanted to run with the U.S. National team, he wanted to go to Italy. When he comes back we’re going to reevaluate where he is, but I fully expect him to be a part of our football team.''
