Will Muschamp, Jimbo Fisher agree: Florida-FSU about more than BCS and rankings

There is a lot at stake when Florida and Florida State meet on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium in their annual rivalry, particularly in respect to the BCS standings. The Gators are trying to secure a BCS bowl bid, with very slim chances at a national title opportunity. The Seminoles are trying to boost their BCS resume with a quality win.

But for Florida coach Will Muschamp and FSU coach Jimbo Fisher, just the fact that it's the Gators and the Seminoles makes it important enough.

"It's an important game because it's Florida,'' Fisher said. "They're a great team and any time you can beat a great team it's always important. Florida is a significant game, it's a rivalry game. There are great expectations on it and you have to play the important game."

Muschamp said it's understood when you take the head coaching job at UF that certain things are expected of you. Beating your rivals is one of them. And FSU most definitely counts in that category, he said.

"This game is important for a lot of reasons beside any ranking that's involved or anything outside of tha,'' he said. "It's an important game for the University of Florida. It's important for your state to win this football game. There's a lot of other reasons that come first and foremost in my mind as opposed to the external situation out there."
