Women's Search Narrowed

GAINESVILLE - Former Florida player and current University of North Carolina-Charlotte head coach Amanda Butler interviewed for the Gators' head coaching job on Thursday.

Butler and UF women's athletic director Lynda Tealer were captured by a Gainesville Sun photographer as they landed at the Gainesville Regional Airport on Thursday.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley will not comment on the search, which originally focused on California coach Joanne Boyle. Boyle was reportedly offered the job during the Final Four, but eventually turned both it and the Duke job (where she was a former assistant to Gail Goestenkors) down.

Butler played four seasons with the Gators (1991-95) and was an assistant under former coach Carol Ross until 1997. She has led Charlotte to consecutive WNIT appearances in her first two seasons as head coach.
