Florida coach Will Muschamp's father passes away

Florida coach Will Muschamp is in Georgia today for a memorial service for his father.

Herbert Larry Muschamp, 79, died at a local hospital on Thursday in Mentone, Ala. A memorial service will be held this afternoon at 5 p.m. at Cloudland Presbyterian Church in Menlo, Ga.

Mr. Muschamp was a graduate of the University of North Carolina where he played football and earned his Master's Degree. He also received a six-year Certificate in Education from the University of Georgia.

He taught history and served as head football coach at East Rome High School, then at Darlington as principal of the middle school. He later moved to Gainesville where he was Headmaster of Oak Hall School. He returned to Rome, Ga.,  in 1986 as principal of the Darlington Lower School. He retired in 1999 and moved to Mentone, Ala.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Cloudland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 732, Summerville, GA. 30747 or the Ralley Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, 5775 Glenridge Dr., Building B, Suite 370, Atlanta, Ga. 30328.
