Florida DB Vernon Hargreaves III out at least one week with shoulder injury
Florida freshman DB Vernon Hargreaves III will miss five to seven days of practice after suffering a shoulder sprain in Wednesday's practice.
Florida coach Will Muschamp said Hargreaves "will be fine", but the freshman was not at practice Thursday night.
“We don’t have the medical set-up over there (at the lacrosse field) like we do at our place," Muschamp said. "A lot of times if it’s better for them to get treatment I’ll leave them back and have treatment rather than bring them over there. That’s why some guys were there and some guys weren’t."
The injury is a setback for Hargreaves at a critical time. Muschamp said after Friday's full scrimmage and Saturday's open practice, it will be time to start narrowing reps for those who have proven they are ready to play.
The Gators open the season Aug. 31 against Toledo.
Hargreaves, a Wharton alum, is the latest player from the Tampa-St. Petersburg area to end up on the injured list. He joins OL Jon Halapio (pectoral strain), TB Hunter Joyer (hamstring) and RB Mike Jones (viral infection) on the Gators' disabled list.
