Florida Gators 10th, FSU football 16th in first college football playoff rankings
Florida (7-1) is No. 10 in the first set of the college football playoff rankings, which were released Tuesday night. Florida State (7-1) is 16th.
Clemson - the Seminoles' opponent this week - is No. 1, followed by LSU, Ohio State and Alabama.
Three teams from the American Athletic Conference cracked the top 25. Undefeated Memphis - whose resume includes a win over Ole Miss - was No. 13 and joined in the rankings by No. 22 Temple and No. 25 Houston.
The 12-person committee's rankings aren't meant to be predictors of which teams will play in the Dec. 31 national semifinals in Miami and Arlington, Texas. They are merely snapshots of where the top programs are through the first nine weeks of the season.
If last year is any indication, expect plenty of movement in the coming weeks until the semifinalists are revealed Dec. 6. FSU was the only playoff team that cracked the top four in last season's first set of rankings, although Oregon and Alabama were fifth and sixth. Ohio State, the eventual national champion, began No. 16.
