Florida Gators' Jalen Tabor snubbed on Thorpe Award watch list
HOOVER, Ala. -- While we wait for actual things to happen here at SEC media days, one random note: Florida defensive back Jalen Tabor is not listed on the preseason watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the country's top defensive back.
Tabor is an All-America candidate for his junior season and will likely be a first-round pick next spring. I'd argue that Tabor, not Vernon Hargreaves, was the Gators' top defensive back last season...and Hargreaves was an All-American and a first-round draft pick.
I don't get too fired up about watch lists, but this one did surprise me.
Locals on the watch list were the Gators' Marcus Maye, Florida State's Derwin James and USF's Deatrick Nichols.
