Florida Gators' Jarrad Davis has ankle sprain, no timetable for his return
Star linebacker Jarrad Davis sustained a severe ankle sprain, and the Florida Gators do not know when he will return, the school announced Sunday.
UF is off this week before playing rival Georgia on Oct. 29 in Jacksonville. The Gators control their destiny in the SEC East.
Davis injured himself during Saturday's 40-14 win over Missouri. Initial X-rays were negative, and he was also set to undergo an MRI, coach Jim McElwain said after the game.
"It was kind of surreal seeing him really get helped off the field because he does so much for this team, so much for this program..." cornerback Jalen Tabor said afterward. "That's the heart and soul of this defense."
Davis leads the Gators with 48 tackles and is tied for the team lead in tackles for a loss (3.5) and pass breakups (four).
Davis has been projected by some analysts as a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
