Florida LB Powell suffers season-ending ACL injury
Florida LB Jeremi Powell suffered a torn ACL in this past Saturday's game against Missouri and will miss the remainder of the season.
Powell, a Pinellas Park alum, had become a key player for the Gators on special teams, and suffered the injury on a special teams play.
"Jeremi Powell did tear his ACL on the punt-block there," Florida coach Will Muschamp said. "It was a non-contact (injury), he was planting and got caught in the turf. So unfortunate for him, he's a guy who was really emerging, special teams-wise. He did a great job on kickoff for us and on special teams was really playing well. So disappointed for him."
Powell has played in all seven games this season, and also had four tackles on defense. He is the ninth Gator player to suffer a season-ending injury since fall camp began in August.
"It's frustrating, but it is what it is," Muschamp said. "It's the hand you're dealt and you're gonna have to play with it."
