USA Today released the first college football coaches poll of the season, with Florida State ranked No. 4 and garnering one first-place vote. Defending champ Alabama comes in at No. 1. Florida is hanging on at No. 25.

Thursday’s announcement is the latest accolade for the Seminoles, who are among the favorites to compete for a trip to Tampa for the Jan. 9 national title game at Raymond James Stadium. On Wednesday, Fox Sports ranked FSU second in the country, behind only the defending champions, Alabama. Florida was No. 24 in Fox’s rankings.

FSU returns 16 starters, including 10 on offense. The ‘Noles start fall camp on Tuesday and open the season on Sept. 5 against Ole Miss in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.

The Gators return 12 starters from last year’s SEC East championship team but still have many unanswered questions, including the status of their top offensive talent, receiver Antonio Callaway. UF opens practice later today in preparation for its Sept. 3 season opener against UMass.
