Florida State's Dalvin Cook not among Heisman Trophy finalists

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook was not among the three Heisman Trophy finalists announced Monday evening.

The finalists are: Alabama running back Derrick Henry, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Cook scored 19 touchdowns for the Seminoles (10-2) and set the school's single-season record with 1,658 yards and. His 7.9 yards per carry were the most of any major-conference player who had at least 100 rushes, and he led the nation with 26 plays of at least 20 yards.

At least two factors worked against Cook. FSU didn't win its division in the ACC and was denied a playoff spot after its 10-2 season. Cook also missed seven quarters - including the entire Syracuse game - due to injuries.

Three Noles have won the award previously: quarterbacks Charlie Ward (1993), Chris Weinke (2000) and Jameis Winston (2013).

The winner will be announced Saturday evening.
