Florida walk-on QB Jacob Guy pursuing graduate transfer
Former Pasco High standout QB Jacob Guy won't participate in Florida's spring practice and is looking to play his final college season elsewhere as a graduate transfer, his father, David, said Tuesday afternoon.
Guy joined UF as a preferred walk-on and drew some praise from coach Jim McElwain last spring. He did not play during his four years at UF but has one final season of eligibility remaining. He is on track to graduate in April with a degree in communications.
Guy is no longer listed on the Gators' roster and confirmed his intention via text message.
The 6-foot-5, 222-pound Guy was a three-star recruit in high school. He was the Times' first-team all-Suncoast quarterback as a senior and set Pasco County single-season records in touchdowns (42) and passing yards (2,672).
Guy turned down offers from UMass and Miami (Ohio) and interest from Tulane to walk on at UF. Those college programs all have different coaches now, making it hard to restart the recruiting process.
"Basically it's kind of up in the air," said his father, David.
