Former Wharton star Vernon Hargreaves making a strong impression with Gators
When Florida landed former Wharton standout DB Vernon Hargreaves III in its 2013 recruiting class, the Gators staff was sure they were getting a talented player with the ability to get on the field immediately.
Nearly two weeks through fall camp, Hargreaves is proving the coaches right.
Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin said Hargreaves has been outstanding so far, and the freshman will see playing time this season.
"Vernon's doing a great job," Durkin said. "He'll be playing for us this year. You see him out there and I can't say he's a pleasant surprise to us, that was our plan with him going in, but he has lived up to the expectations of him coming in here. We think he's a phenomenal player. He takes the game very seriously, he understands the game, he learns defense well, he's a smart player and a very talented player. So he'll be out there."
Hargreaves was the National Defensive Player of the Year with 110 tackles, five interceptions, five forced fumbles and five breakups as a senior.
