Gators basketball begin tough road stretch tonight at Tennessee
No. 3 Florida will begin a tough stretch of its basketball season tonight at Tennessee - one of the toughest venues to play in the SEC. The game will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m.
Florida, which is undefeated in SEC play, will play four of its next five games on the road.
The Gators have lost eight of their last 10 at Thompson-Boling Arena. Florida is 5-12 at Tennessee under coach Billy Donovan, who said a lot of the credit for the Vols' home success goes to Tennessee.
“I think they’ve been much improved since when I first got here," Donovan said. "Bruce (Pearl) came in and did a really good job. They had Lofton. CJ Watson is in the NBA. Tyler Smith. I forget the big guy’s game, he was really, really good (Wayne Chism). And then when Bruce left, I think he left Cuonzo (Martin) a very, very good team, a talented team. Cuonzo has been his stamp on how he wants his team to play and their identity. But they’ve been very, very good. They’re a team that has been right on the cusp the last couple years of getting into the NCAA Tournament, with maybe some losses in November and December hurting them. But clearly they’ve been one of the better teams in our league the last 10 years, in my opinion.”
Florida is 4-0 on the road this season. Here is Donovan's take on that success and why it will mean nothing tonight.
