Gators battle to 78-69 win over Alabama
After jumping out to an early 10-point lead, then going scoreless for seven minutes and falling behind, No. 3 Florida - aided by shooting 62 percent from the field - held on for a 78-69 win over Alabama in front of 12,520 at the O’Connell Center Saturday afternoon.
“It definitely was a tough win,” Florida senior guard Scottie Wilbekin said. “They weren’t going to give it to us easy.”
The Gators (21-2, 10-0 SEC) are off to the second-best start in school history and have now won 15 consecutive games. Florida also extended its home winning streak to 29 games. It was the 105th win for the Gators’ senior class.
Florida, which has played stellar defense all season, struggled defensively Saturday. The Tide shot 55 percent in the game, aided by senior guard Trevor Releford’s game-high 25 points.
