Gators clinch SEC basketball title for second straight season

With Arkansas' 71-67 overtime victory over Kentucky tonight, the No. 1 Florida Gators clinched the outright SEC regular season championship. The Gators clinched a share of the title with a win over Vanderbilt Tuesday night.

It is the second time Florida has clinched the outright title in February. The 2006-07 team clinched on Feb. 21.

Florida will be the No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament in Atlanta, and will play at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. With a win, the Gators would advance to the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Friday's quarterfinal game will be televised on ESPNU.

Florida has advanced to the SEC championship game four out of the past five times the SEC tourney has been held in Atlanta: 2004, 2005, 2007, 2011. The Gators won in 2005 and 2007.
