Gators coach D.J. Durkin won't allow defense to focus on the numbers
It's not that Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin isn't proud of the success his unit is having right now.
The Gators lead the SEC in rushing, scoring and pass defense, among other catergories, and Florida is No. 2 nationally in total defense behind Michigan State.
But as the Gators prepare to travel to No. 10 LSU on Saturday, Durkin said the focus is on continuing to get better, not the numbers they are already putting up.
“We don’t really talk about any of the rankings," Durkin said. "To us, it’s about measuring us to our own standard and watching the tape real closely and being good self-evaluators. I think our guys have done a good job of that. We always watch and point out where we can be better. There’s a lot we can be better at. There’s a lot of ways we can execute better. Some of the stuff we’ve already talked about in here. We stay on our guys, but they’re hungry themselves and they understand that and they want to be great at everything we do. It’s just a matter of getting better and continuing to work every week to improve.”
