Gators hoping for opportunity to cut the nets down

If Florida defeats Vanderbilt tonight in its home-finale, the Gators will win their second SEC Championship in three years.

Which prompted the question earlier this week: If the Gators win, will they cut down the nets?

If it was strictly up to the players, the answer would be yes.

"I would (like to),'' senior guard Kenny Boynton said. We never have been able to cut down the nets. Personally, as a team, we would want that. But that's his (coach Billy Donovan's) decision. We'll see how it plays out."

Two years ago, the Gators clinched the title on the road, so obviously net-cutting was out of the question.

“That’s up to them, that’s something that’s up to the coaches,'' senior forward Erik Murphy said. "We won the outright two years ago at Vandy, so we obviously we weren’t going to do it there. It would be cool, but it’s really coach’s call.”
