Gators not surprised by Missouri's success

No. 14 Missouri's undefeated season so far may have caught some by surprise, but don't count the Florida Gators among those.

Florida coach Will Muschamp and several Gators players said they've known since last season that the Tigers are a good program. Muschamp said Missouri's troubles last season were related to multiple injuries the Tigers endured.

"Well, I think more than anything last year they were pretty banged up," Muschamp said. "I mean, they came into our game and they have a makeshift offenisve line. They had a bunch of different guys that were missing. Obviously you know (James, QB) Franklin, who's hurt now was hurt last year most of the season, so anytime you lose your quarterback it makes it difficult. They've stayed healthy No. 1. No 2, offensively they've been very balanced. They spread you out. They create space plays. You've got to tackle in space vs. them. They've got three outstanding backs that are all guys that make you pay if you miss in space. They're accurate throwing the football."

In their first meeting as SEC East foes last season, Florida earned a 14-7 victory over the Tigers in Gainesville.

But Missouri is on a roll right now. The Tigers are 6-0, and is coming off a huge 41-26 win over Georgia last week. Saturday's game is the first matchup of ranked opponents at Missouri's Faurot Field since 2010.

Junior DB Cody Riggs said Missouri has proven they are a team to be taken seriously.

“Last year we only won by seven points," Riggs said.  "They are a really good football team. They have a really good quarterback. Obviously he went down, but they have a really good supporting cast around him. They have a really good defense. They’re a really good team. I don’t know why people doubted them. I always saw that they were a really good team.”
