Gators will try to get Matt Jones in on double-digit plays
Florida RB Matt Jones hasn't played a game since January and missed all of fall camp recovering from a viral infection, so when he takes the field against Miami on Saturday neither Jones or his coaches are sure what to expect.
But if at all possible, the Gators would like to get Jones in on about 20 plays.
“I say 20-25 because that’s on the basis of what he’s capable of," UF offensive coordinator Brent Pease said. "You’ve kind of seen the steady average from our backs. I’m not saying that’s what he’s going to get but I expect him to be out there and being in the offense."
Florida coach Will Muschamp said this week the biggest concern is getting Jones acclimated to the heat because he's been inactive throughout August practice.
"We gotta be smart in how we use him because we gotta understand probably through practice this week what’s the number of reps he can handle?," Pease said. "The fatigue factor is probably going to become involved in the humid situation down there at the time of the game. He’ll know the game plan. He'll know that because he’s a smart guy. It's just we’ll see what he can handle, but I expect he can handle it all.”
