How did Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney get his nickname?

6

December

Now that Clemson is the top seed in the college football playoff, you'll be hearing Tigers coach Dabo Swinney's name even more often in the coming weeks.

So how did Dabo Swinney get his nickname?

The origin has been explained a few times, including in this great profile by Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel and this one in The State newspaper.

Swinney has an older brother, Tripp, who was a year and a half old when he was born in Alabama. Tripp referred to his younger brother - whose actual name is William - as something that resembled "that boy." That boy became Dabo. And Dabo became a dance trend...and the coach of the top seed in the college football playoff.
