How does the Outback Bowl help Florida Gators recruit Tampa Bay?

TAMPA -- Just because the Florida Gators are here for the Outback Bowl doesn't mean they'll get a huge boost in local recruiting.

Coach Jim McElwain said the current dead period before the Jan. 2 game at Raymond James Stadium makes it hard to do too much.

"Our logo being on local television and being out there the way it is, it obviously is something that helps," McElwain said Wednesday. "I know this has been, since we've gotten here, a big priority for us, is this area."

That's showing in UF's 2017 recruiting class. UF's top two commitments, according to 247Sports' composite rankings, are Hillsborough High defensive end Zachary Carter and Tampa Bay Tech receiver Daquon Green. Jesuit High running back Malik Davis - Hillsborough County's all-time leading rusher - has also orally committed to the Gators.
