Jim Harbaugh doesn't understand SEC uproar over Michigan spring practice
And if there's one thing Harbaugh made clear Monday after the Wolverines opened spring practice under blue skies at IMG Academy, it's that he doesn't care.
"No," Harbaugh said when asked if he cares whether other programs are upset. "You got your quote? You got your headline now?"
Harbaugh also said he doesn't understand why other schools are upset about his program holding practice 1,200 miles from campus, at a prep football factory that features 14 of Florida's top 100 juniors.
"I can't really see that," said Harbaugh, who added that he doesn't believe there's a recruiting advantage to the trip.
Harbaugh said Michigan chose to come down here to be outside. The Wolverines practiced on a 73-degree morning here; it was 45 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Harbaugh also said the Wolverines will grow closer as a group by the trip. Among the optional scheduled activities: A trip to the beach today for lunch, a screening of Remember the Titans tonight and an outing to watch the Pirates-Tigers spring training game Wednesday (with Harbaugh as the guest first-base coach).
"Team building," Harbaugh said. "Team development. Everybody getting to know each other better."
I'll have more on this story in tomorrow's Tampa Bay Times.
