Jim McElwain: USF's Charlie Strong is 'one of the best guys in the business'
Count Florida Gators coach Jim McElwain among the fans of USF hiring Charlie Strong.
"I talked to Charlie already..." McElwain told reporters Tuesday at a news conference in Gainesville. "This is one of the best guys in the business. I'm really excited for Charlie and what he can bring for them."
Strong, a former Gators assistant, joined the Bulls after three unsuccessful seasons at Texas.
All seven of the state's Division I-A head coaches has won a national title, either as a player, assistant coach or head coach. Although McElwain said that might not affect his team's recruiting much - the Gators typically recruit different players than USF or Florida Atlantic - it does show how desired this state is.
"They're jobs people want," McElwain said, "and a big piece of that is because of the talent pool that's in this state."
