Jimbo Fisher a 'strong candidate' for LSU job, according to report
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has emerged as a strong candidate in LSU's search, according to this report from nola.com.
Other candidates mentioned in the report are interim coach Ed Orgeron and North Carolina coach Larry Fedora.
All of that is expected. The Tigers will probably go with an offensive coach to counteract the struggles on that side of the ball under Les Miles. Fisher is regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the game, even with this disappointing three-loss season. I expect his name to continue surfacing for major jobs, including Texas (if the Longhorns fire Charlie Strong). That's not to say that Fisher will leave. But when you win a national championship and make the College Football Playoff, other programs want to poach you.
Fisher hasn't been asked about the LSU job recently, but his policy is to decline comment about other jobs.
I wrote last month that Fisher's message might be better received elsewhere, considering the history of coaches who win national titles.
Our Tom Jones wrote in September that Fisher should ignore the siren call of the SEC and stay in Tallahassee.
