Mock Draft Monday: Vernon Hargreaves headed back to Tampa?

8

February

With the NFL draft order set, it's time to bring back last year's thrilling recurring feature...Mock Draft Monday! There's no Jameis Winston-Marcus Mariota debate, but this year's field includes a few key players from state colleges and, of course, the Bucs' No. 9 overall pick.

As a reminder, I'll search the web for the most notable mock drafts and share some of the themes. It might not be a weekly feature at first -- the draft is still more than two months away -- but it will be as the draft approaches.

If there's a mock draft I'm missing, let me know: mbaker@tampabay.com, or hit me up on Twitter @MBakerTBTimes.

Bucs, No. 9 overall

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.: Florida/Wharton High CB Vernon Hargreaves III. "The Bucs do have a need at cornerback, but there isn't a team in the NFL that wouldn't want this kind of talent on the roster."

ESPN's Todd McShay: Oregon DE DeForest Buckner. "Buckner, who posted 12.0 tackles for loss in conference play this season, would give the Bucs a much-needed playmaker at DE."

SI's Chris Burke: Buckner. "This is another team that must get better up front, particularly at the end spot, and another player with dominant traits, just sitting there for the taking."

NFL.com consensus: There isn't one. Hargreaves is one possibility. Other projections are Ohio State CB Eli Apple and one of Clemson's two star defensive ends - Shaq Lawson or Kevin Dodd.

CBSSports' Rob Rang and Dane Brugler: Hargreaves.

Rotoworld's Josh Norris: Clemson DB Mackensie Alexander

Pro Football Focus' Steve Palazzolo: Eastern Kentucky (and former Ohio State) DE Noah Spence: "During his time in Mobile, Spence established himself as the most explosive pass rusher, giving offensive tackles headaches all week."

Consensus: Don't be surprised if Hargreaves has a homecoming to Tampa to help fix the Bucs' secondary.

Florida State DB Jalen Ramsey

Rotoworld: No. 1, to Tennessee. "The Titans likely want to trade this pick, but a versatile, aggressive defensive back with size and athleticism is not a bad consolation."

ESPN's McShay: No. 5, to Jacksonville. "For a team looking to improve on defense, this would be an ideal scenario."

ESPN's Kiper: No. 5, to Jacksonville. "A worthy top-five talent in the secondary."

SI: No. 5, to Jacksonville

NFL.com consensus: No. 5, to Jacksonville

CBSSports' Rang: No. 3, to San Diego

CBSSports' Brugler: No. 5, to Jacksonville

Pro Football Focus: No. 4, to Dallas

Consensus: The Jaguars add another top talent with state ties. Ramsey would join a roster with Florida DE Dante Folwer Jr. (Lakewood High) and former FSU teammates Rashad Greene and Telvin Smith.

Florida/Wharton High CB Vernon Hargreaves III

ESPN's McShay: No. 8, to Miami

SI: No. 6, to Baltimore. "Don't let his shaky bowl performance fool you: Hargreaves is a legit NFL shut-down corner ready to happen."

NFL.com consensus: There isn't one. As high as No. 6 (to Baltimore) and as low as No. 11 (to Chicago).

Rotoworld: No. 8, to Miami

Pro Football Focus: No. 8, to Miami: "Hargreaves was outstanding in 2014, our best cornerback in the nation, but he took a step back in 2015. Still, he's sound fundamentally and can play a variety of coverages while staying with even the shiftiest of receivers."

Consensus: The Dolphins could spoil Hargreaves' shot at returning to Tampa by selecting him one pick earlier than the Bucs.

Florida DL Jonathan Bullard

Rotoworld: No. 30, to Denver (this projection was done before the Broncos won the Super Bowl and earned the No. 31 overall pick)

Pro Football Focus: No. 24, to Cincinnati

NFL.com: No. 28, to Kansas City

Consensus: Bullard isn't on every mock draft, but he seems to be a borderline first-round talent.
