Palm Harbor's Casey Turgeon named SEC Player of the Week
Florida junior Casey Turgeon, a Dunedin High alum, has earned SEC Player of the Week honors.
It is the first SEC Player of the Week honor for the second baseman from Palm Harbor. Turgeon was instrumental in Florida's sweep at No. 20 Alabama, finishing the weekend series 8-for-11 (.727). It was the Gators' first sweep of Alabama in Tuscaloosa since 1988.
Turgeon is the first Gator to earn SEC Player of the Week honors in baseball since Zack Powers in 2013. He had multiple hits in every game and scored in every game including opening the weekend 3-for-4 with an RBI single, a run and a SAC bunt.
The Gators (33-15/18-6 SEC), ranked No. 4 by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game, will host No. 24 Mercer (34-11/16-5 A-Sun) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at McKethan Stadium.
The Gators will host No. 18 Vanderbilt (36-12/14-10 SEC) in a three-game series beginning on Thursday night.
