Scottie Wilbekin earns SEC Player of Week honors, Gators No. 2 in both polls
Florida senior guard Scottie Wilbekin has been named the SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Meanwhile, the Gators rose to No. 2 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls. It's the first time Florida has been ranked No. 2 since February of 2013.
Wilbekin averaged 22 points, four assists, three rebounds and 2.5 steals in wins at Tennessee and at 14th-ranked Kentucky.
His 21 points against Tennessee on Tuesday were a career-high before he topped it with 23 points against Kentucky this past Saturday.
He had eight assists and no turnovers in 71 minutes of action this week. Wilbekin was also 21-of-24 (88 percent) from the free-throw line, including 18-of-20 in the second half. Sixteen of the 22 points he averaged on the week came in the second half.
Wilbekin said he doesn't allow himself to get too caught up in individual honors.
"They don't really mean anything (individual honors)," Wilbekin said. "It's nice to be acknowledged, but I've still got to put in work and we've still got practice today, so it's not really going to affect anything."
