The NFL is investigating former Florida/Lakewood High defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. after TMZ posted a video showing Fowler watching two women fight earlier this month.

In the video, Fowler steps back and appears to motion for one woman to come at the other. A brawl ensues before Fowler eventually steps in to break it up. TMZ reports that the fight was between the mother of Fowler's child and his current girlfriend and took place at an apartment complex in Florida.

"These are disturbing images and we will review the matter," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told TMZ.

Fowler was the No. 3 overall pick in last year's NFL draft.

Fowler released this statement Tuesday afternoon:

I am embarrassed and have apologized for my actions to everyone involved. As a family, we have been dealing with this moment and the conflict that led to it since this occurred. The video surfacing is a sad reminder that emotions got the best of all of us. I take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happened.
