We're live from the College Football Playoff media days
ATLANTA -- Greetings from Atlanta, the site of Saturday's Peach Bowl - one of two College Football Playoff semifinals.
It's media day here, and at the Fiesta Bowl. I'm on site for Alabama-Washington with columnist Tom Jones, while our Tampa Bay Times colleagues Joey Knight and Martin Fennelly are in Arizona for Ohio State-Clemson. We'll have more later today once things get going, but here are three things I'm interested in today:
1. How does Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts handle the spotlight? Hurts has obviously handled the spotlight well on the field - he was the SEC's offensive player of the year, after all - but he hasn't had to do too much off the field. Those duties fall to the Crimson Tide's upperclassmen, not freshmen like Hurts. But he'll have to face a small army of reporters today, for an hour. I'm curious if he's as poised at a podium as he is scrambling from the pocket.\
2. How many underdog questions will Washington have to answer? Quite a few, I'm guessing. Maybe I'll keep a running tally on Twitter. Double points if they say "underdog," because they're Huskies. Get it?
3. What bulletin-board material comes out of the Fiesta Bowl? There's already been some; a Clemson defensive back said Ohio State's J.T. Barrett wasn't the best quarterback the Tigers have faced. He was correct (Lamar Jackson is, uh, pretty good), but that won't matter to the Buckeyes. Wonder what other proclamations get made in Arizona in what looks like a close matchup.
