What really happened between Will Grier and the Florida Gators?
It's been a year since Florida Gators quarterback Will Grier received a year-long drug suspension from the NCAA, and I'm still not entirely sure of everything that happened.
Grier shared his version of events today in a Bleacher Report story with Matt Hayes. It's definitely worth a read.
Grier's story suggests that UF coach Jim McElwain strongly encouraged Grier to transfer. That's interesting. At the time, the Gators had one quarterback on the roster with significant experience (Treon Harris, who later transferred) and another one that was unproven but had potential (Luke Del Rio).
I'm glad Hayes got Grier to share his side of things. I'm left with a lot of questions. If Grier stuck around, would UF have pursued Purdue grad transfer Austin Appleby in the offseason? What would have happened when Del Rio hurt his knee against North Texas? Would Grier be in position to start now and revive an offense that continues to sputter?
Anyway, check out Hayes' story here.
