Back on the job

Famulogo
Just a few hours into his new job as Florida A&M's 10th president, James H. Ammons announced that former pharmacy college dean Henry Lewis III will once again lead the college. Lewis, 57, a FAMU alumnus, was dean from 1994 to 2002 and served as interim FAMU president for six months between Fred Gainous and Castell Bryant.

Lewis and Ammons said the top priority for the rest of this year is getting the pharmacy college, the nation's largest producer of black pharmacists, fully re-accredited. The college of roughly 1,000 students is on probation because of deficiencies in facilities, faculty population, and curriculum.

"You have my commitment to restore the resources you need to remove any problems with this college's accreditation," Ammons told pharmacy faculty Monday morning.
