New FAMU law dean? Well ...

FAMU does not have a new law school dean after all. At least not totally, completely, officially. Despite the press release issued by Northern Illinois University yesterday (and reported by The Gradebook this morning), Leroy Pernell – NIU's current law dean – can't be a Rattler until the FAMU Board of Trustees gives its approval.

True, said FAMU spokeswoman LaNedra Carroll, Pernell has accepted FAMU's offer, which includes a proposed salary of $250,000. And true, Carroll said, he has the backing of President James Ammons. But the final decision rests with the trustees, who won't vote on Pernell until Sept. 13.

So why did NIU jump the gun? "I don't know," Carroll said. "I'm going to give them a call."
